Hey!! I'm made it here alive!! Let's see.... so much has happened!! I got to Hermosillo around 4. The mission president and his wife and the assistants picked us up from the airport. They then drove us to the mission office. I rode with President Hernandez!! We got to the office which is right next to the temple!! It's so pretty!!! We received our assignments at the office!! I met my companion, his name is Elder Thueson and he's from Nampa Idaho. He's been here for 10 months. He's awesome!! We are assigned to serve in Caborca!!! It's about 4 hours north of Hermosillo! So we stayed in the area assistants house that first night and then we took a bus early in the morning to Caborca. The bus ride should have been 4 hours but we were stuck at a military checkpoint for 2 hours!!! They were checking our bus for drugs haha!! We got to Caborca around 2. We were only able to be at the house for like 10 minutes and then we went straight to a members house for food!! It was fun. They fed us spaghetti and meatloaf. Haha the only food I've had here has been subway and the members food. I haven't had any Mexican food...... Oh ya and they served us salad so I ate salad for the first time.... gross. The members were really nice and humble. At least I think they were - I couldn't understand anything they said.... After that we had two appointments but we're both so new to Caborca that we couldn't find either of them. Plus the directions for the houses are horrible so It's impossible to find anything. After that we went back to the house to unpack. Then we went to bed:)
Today we had study in the morning. Then we had an appointment to eat at a members house for lunch but they weren't there so we bought some food at a little store near our house. I just had Ramen. Hahaha... I still haven't had any mexican food. And now I'm writing you guys so that's what has happened:)
Tonight we have about 4 appointments with investigators. And this Saturday we have a baptism!!!! And I'm pretty sure we have more the next week!!! The language is coming okay. It's a lot different here than anything I learned in the MTC. But I can understand about 50 percent of what they're saying. And I'm learning sooooooo much everyday so I'll be fine!!
Caborca is so cool!!! The nickname they have for it here in the mission is "Calorca" because of how hot it is!! It's November and it's been 100 everyday so far. I sweat through my shirts within 30 minutes of being outside. There is a very diverse mix of people here. Most of the city is super run down and old. Lot's of really really small homes. Really poor. But then just randomly you'll just see these huge houses. It's a really cool mix of super rich and super poor. But overall the city is poor. The streets are a mix of dirt and cement. The sidewalks are just a bunch of pieces of cement. There are stray dogs everywhere. The drivers are crazy!! And I love it here!!! I'm going to take lots of pictures to send to you guys on Monday. Oh ya, Monday will be my regular P day through out my whole mission. Our house is really nice for Mexico. We have AC but no hot water. Ummm... Idk what else to talk about. I'm loving it here so far. It's a lot of hard work but it's good work. I don't know the language but it will come with time. I'll write you guys again on Monday:) And I'll send pictures!!! I love you all!!!
